Archery, a thousand-year-old practice with roots in hunting and warfare, is closely linked to human history, dating back about 64,000 years according to discoveries in South Africa and archived tournaments in China during the Zhou Dynasty. Its modern evolution was marked by the founding of the International Archery Federation in 1931, now known as World Archery. At the Olympic Games, archery is represented by five different events, requiring concentration and skill, where archers complete a ranking round before competing in eliminations until the final.
Since its first appearance at the Olympic Games in Paris in 1900 and its reintroduction in 1972 in Munich after a 52-year break, archery has been a regular sport at the Games. The Republic of Korea has emerged as a dominant force, winning 43 medals, including 27 gold, during the Olympic editions, illustrating its excellence in the sport.
