Golf, with its rules codified as early as the eighteenth century in Scotland, has become a global sport with millions of enthusiasts around the world. Since its beginnings, golf has evolved to host women’s tournaments and has established itself as a demanding sport combining technique and strategy.
At the Olympics, golf adopts the “stroke-play” format, where players try to complete the 18-hole course in the fewest strokes possible. This competition takes place over four days, and the player with the lowest score wins the tournament. After an absence of more than 100 years, golf returned to the Olympic programme in Rio in 2016 and Tokyo in 2020, giving the world’s best golfers a new arena to shine.
